  • If your passport is expiring within 6 months of your returning home, extend it if you are close to expiration.
  • Make 2 copies of your passport identification page. This will facilitate replacement if your passport is lost or stolen. Leave one copy at home with friends or relatives. Carry the other with you in a separate place from your passport
  • Immediately notify local police and Indian embassy or consulate in case of loss of passport
  • Find out what type of vaccination you will need to enter the country, there may also be medications you will need to take before, during and even after your trip
  • Assemble a traveler's medical kit appropriate for your destination, length of trip and general health
  • Do NOT pack or bring prohibited items to the airport
  • What you can't carry
    • knives of any type
    • cutting or puncturing instruments (including pocketknives, carpet knives, box cutters, ice picks, straight razors, metal scissors and metal nail files)
    • Corkscrews
    • athletic equipment that could be used as a weapon (such as baseball or softball bats, golf clubs, pool cues, ski poles and hockey sticks)
    • fireworks (including flares or sparklers)
    • flammable liquids or solids (such as fuel, paints or lighter refills)
    • household cleaners (such as drain cleaners and solvents)
    • pressure containers (spray cans, butane fuel, scuba tanks, propane tanks, CO2 cartridges and self-inflating rafts)
    • weapons (firearms, ammunition, gunpowder, mace, tear gas or pepper spray)
    • other hazardous materials (gasoline-powered tools, wet-cell batteries, camping equipment with fuel, radioactive materials, poisons and infectious substances).
  • Leave gifts unwrapped
  • Put all film and cameras in your carry-on luggage
  • Place identification tags in and on all of your baggage
  • Write, type, tape or somehow affix your name and contact information to the inside of your luggage as well as the outside. If your baggage tag gets ripped off your suitcase handle, the airline will still be able to reunite you with your long-lost luggage
  • Do not pack valuables in your check in luggage
  • Avoid drinking water from an unknown source. As a further precaution carry water purifying tablets
  • Follow baggage regulations as applicable


  • Buy genuine Foreign Currencies from licensed money changers
  • Keep your Sales Advice separate from travelers cheques
  • Sign travelers cheques on purchase, & countersign travelers cheques only at the time of encashment
  • Remember to retain the currency Exchange receipts after each transaction. You will need them for re-exchange on departure
  • Be sure your ATM works in the countries you will visit (ask your issuer)
  • Don't travel without proper Overseas Medical Insurance
  • Find out if the international TPA is reputed & licensed. Also ask for an international help line (toll free number)
  • Understand the exclusions of the policy carefully


  • Wear Comfortable clothing. Avoid wearing clothing, jewelry, & accessories that contain metal
  • Drink 8 oz. of water for each hour that you are on the plane
  • Avoid drinking alcohol to keep away dehydration
  • Set your watch to the new time zone upon departure
  • Walk around the cabin of the plane
  • Sleep on the plane if you are scheduled to arrive in the morning
  • Take along an eye mask, neck rest, slippers or foam rubber earplugs to help you sleep
  • Stay awake on the plane if you are scheduled to arrive in the evening.
